Gerrit Komrij

Gerrit Komrij ( born March 30, 1944 in Winterswijk, † July 5, 2012 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch writer, poet and translator, critic, polemicist, columnist and playwright. Between 2000 and 2004 he was a poet of Vader country, so Nationalpoet the Netherlands.

Life

Komrij was born in 1944 in the Iepenstraat in ostniederländischen small town of Winterswijk. According to personal information he was born, where his parents had sought protection from air raids in that chicken coop.

Early on, he began to write. His first work was a collection of poems Maagdenburgse halve bollen s other poems of 1968. 1979 he published the first poetry anthology De Nederlandse poezie van de 19de en 20ste eeuw in 1000 en enige poems (Eng. The Dutch poetry of the 19th and 20th centuries in 1000 and some poems ). 2004, a quarter of a century later, this work was considered a bible of Dutch poetry.

1984 emigrated to Portugal from Komrij, first to Alvites in the mountains of Alto Trás -os- Montes in northern Portugal. In 1988 he moved to his last residence Vila Pouca da Beira to the district of Coimbra. Gerrit Komrij received several literary prizes. He has published over 40 books and is one of the most productive and important Dutch writers of his time. He was, inter alia, with the P. C. Excellent Hooft - prijs.

Gerrit Komrij died in July 2012 at the Hospital Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis in Amsterdam.
