Gerrit Voorting

Gerardus " Gerrit " Voor Peter Ting ( born June 18, 1923 in Velsen ) is a former Dutch cyclist.

Gerrit Voor Ting had nine siblings, his widowed mother ran a candy kiosk in Haarlem. During the Second World War he worked as forced laborers in France. Three of his brothers were also racing, the most successful beside Gerrit was Adri, who was killed in 1961 with the car.

1948 started Gerrit Voor Ting at the Olympics in London and won the silver medal in the road race; He also competed in the Team Pursuit, however, where the Dutch railway four retired already in the first round. In 1949 he was third in the Dutch Road Championship.

Ten times Voor Ting participated in the Tour de France in part, in 1956, he wore the yellow jersey for one day and finished eleventh overall; In 1958 he won a stage and wore three days in yellow. At the Giro d' Italia 1954, he was seventh in the overall standings.

Gerrit Voor Ting was a professional racing driver until 1961.
