Gerry Whiting Hazelton

Gerry Whiting Hazelton ( born February 24, 1829 in Chester, Rockingham County, New Hampshire; † September 29, 1920 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin ) was an American politician. Between 1871 and 1875 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Gerry Hazelton was the elder brother of George Cochrane Hazelton (1832-1922), who was also 1877-1873 for the state of Wisconsin in Congress. He attended the common schools and the Pinkerton Academy in Derry. At times, he also received private lessons. After leaving school, he taught himself for some time as a teacher. After studying law and his 1852 was admitted to the bar he began to work in his new profession in Amsterdam, New York. In 1856 he moved to Columbus in Wisconsin. There he hit as a member of the newly formed Republican Party launched a political career.

1860 Hazelton was elected to the Senate from Wisconsin, its acting president, he was at times. In the same year he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Chicago, was nominated on the Abraham Lincoln as a presidential candidate. In 1864 he was district attorney in Columbia County; In 1866 he was head of the Steuerbehürde in the second Financial District of Wisconsin for a short time. But he was released again by President Andrew Johnson soon from this position. In the congressional elections of 1870 Hazelton in the second constituency of Wisconsin was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of David Atwood on March 4, 1871. After a re-election in 1872 he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1875 two legislative sessions.

1874 Hazelton abandoned a renewed bid for the U.S. House of Representatives. Two years later he moved to Milwaukee. Between 1876 and 1885 he served as United States Attorney for the Eastern part of the state of Wisconsin. In the meantime, he practiced as a lawyer in Milwaukee. In 1912 he was appointed Master of Chancery ( councilor ). Over many years, he was court officer ( Court Commissioner) of the Federal Government and the Milwaukee County. Gerry Hazelton died in September 1920 at the age of 91 years in Milwaukee.
