Gert Verheyen

Gert Verheyen ( born September 20, 1970 in Hoogstraten ) is a former Belgian international footballer who is currently working as a coach.

Career

In the club

Verheyen played in youth at Hoogstraten VV and began his professional career at Lierse SK, where he had moved in 1986. In 1988 he went to RSC Anderlecht. In 1991 he was with the club Belgian champion. A year later he joined the FC Bruges, where he stayed for 14 years faithful. He won four more championships and also was four times Belgian Cup winners. In 2006 he finished his playing career and was coach of the reserve team of FC Bruges.

In the National Team

Verheyen was between 1994 and 2002 Belgian national team. He played 50 international matches and made it ten times. He was at the World Championships in 1998 and 2002 in the squad. After the 2002 World Cup, he announced his retirement from international football.
