Gertrud Fridh

Gertrud Fridh (* November 26, 1921 in Gothenburg, † 11 October 1984) was a Swedish theater and film actress.

Life and work

From 1942 she studied at the Drama School of the Gothenburg City Theatre. In the late 1940s and 50s she appeared in Gothenburg, Stockholm and Malmö. Already in Gothenburg, she played under the direction of Ingmar Bergman, who also filmed movies like Wild Strawberries (1957 ), The Face and The Hour of the Wolf (1967 ) with her.

From 1958 to 1977, Gertrud Fridh ensemble member of Sweden's national theater, the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. Here she played a number of major roles, including the Phaedra in Euripides' Hippolytus (1965). One of her most acclaimed roles was that. Hedda Gabler in the legendary production of the Ibsen play by Bergman 1964

In 1977 she retired from the theater. Her last years she spent in Spain.
