Gertrud Pätsch

Gertrud Pätsch ( born January 22, 1910 in Einbeck as Gertrude Kettler, † December 14, 1994 in Jena) was a German ethnologist and philologist, who has made ​​an outstanding contribution in particular in the field of Kartwelologie.

Life

In 1937, she completed her doctorate at the University of Muenster in Ferdinand Hester man with the dissertation on the verb finite verb in the altgeorgischen translation of the Gospel of Mark. After the war she habilitated at the Humboldt University in Berlin Indonesistik, there was Director of the Ethnology and taught Caucasian studies and general linguistics.

In 1960, she followed the call to Jena Friedrich Schiller University, a year later they procured the renaming of the Department of General Linguistics and Cultural Studies in honor of her mentor Hester man. After her retirement in 1970 she lectured for two years as a guest at the State University of Tbilisi. Towards the end of her life she was dedicated to the transmission of the medieval epic poem The Knight in the Tiger Skin by Shota Rustaveli from the Altgeorgischen.

Pätsch was involved in the cultural traffic between Georgia and the GDR. She founded the University of partnership between Jena and Tbilisi.
