Gertrude Pritzi

Often called Trude Pritzi - - Gertrude Pritzi (born 15 January 1920 in Vienna, † October 21, 1968 in Vienna) was an Austrian table tennis player. Her achievements they reached 1936-1944 during their Club membership to: Post SV Wien. In 1938 she became world champion. She lived in Vienna and earned her living as a postal employee.

Career

Pritzi began her career at the table tennis club Badner AC, moved in 1936 to Post SV Wien and finally in 1945 to Austria Wien. Later she also played for the Vienna. 1937 and 1938 she won the Austrian championship and won through against the then prevailing Trude Wildam by. In 1938 she also became world champion.

Already at the World Championships in 1937 she reached the final, but this was aborted due to timeout; the title was not awarded at the time - a curiosity in the history of table tennis. The ITTF This decision has now been corrected: Since April 2001, Trude Pritzi and the American Ruth Hughes Aarons are listed as " Co - World Champions ".

After the annexation of Austria to Germany in 1938, she performed at the World Championships in Germany. She was twice world champion in doubles. In the German ranking in 1938 they performed at rank 1.

Died in 1968 Pritzi and was buried in Vienna Cemetery Dobling.

In 2010 she was inducted into the ITTF Hall of Fame.
