The Society for the promotion of community service is Lübeck's oldest citizens' initiative.

History

The " profit " as the company is consistently called today abbreviated, was from the preacher at St. Peter's Church and later lawyer Ludwig Suhl with his friends Christian Adolph Overbeck, Johann Julius Walbaum, Anton Diedrich Gütschow, Gottlieb Nicolaus Stolterfoth, Johann Friedrich Petersen ( the elderly) and Nikolaus Heinrich Brehmer launched on January 27, 1789 in life, first as Literärische society for the Scientific Entertainment and mutual information. 1791, the purpose of the company by the non-profit aspect has been expanded, and since 1793 it bears the name, which has been preserved until today.

For the 100th anniversary in 1889, the Company received Lübeck's highest award, the commemorative Bene Merenti awarded. Thus, it is the only legal entity owner of this award. Next date eight directors of the Company were honored with the coin.

Presence
