Gesine Meißner

Gesine Meissner ( born February 22, 1952 in Uelzen ) is a German politician of the FDP, former Member of the Parliament of Lower Saxony and since 2009 a member of the European Parliament.

Education and work

After graduation Meissner trained as a hotel clerk in the hotel school in Tenerife. After working at the front desk and in human resources management in a guest house in Munich, she studied German, English, music, nutrition science, home economics and education in Munich and Hanover. In 1980 she made ​​her state exam for teachers at vocational schools. Then she was until 1993 deputy director of Rural Adult Education in Lower Saxony and then independent communication trainer.

Policy

Since 1985, Ms. Meissner is a member of the FDP and has since had several positions at different levels. Currently she is a member of the Federal Executive and Regional Executive Lower Saxony, a member of the Liberal seniors and the Council of the European party ALDE and Vice -President of the European Liberal Women.

Member of Parliament

From 2003 to 2009 she was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament, she had this first for the constituency Taught ( Burgdorf, Taught, Uetze ) candidate. For the 2008 state election she stood as a candidate for the constituency Jump ( Wennigsen, Hemmingen, Ronnenberg and Jump ) and moved again over the national list in the state legislature. She was 2003-2009 chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Social Affairs, Women, Family, health and housing. After the election to the European Parliament on 18 June 2009, she gave back the seat in Parliament.

MEP

For elections to the European Parliament on 7 June 2009, she was nominated as a top candidate of Lower Saxony list and voted on place 5 of the Federal list. It belongs to the European Parliament the 7th parliamentary term, is representing for the FDP Lower Saxony, Hamburg and Bremen and is a member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism and a substitute member of the Committees on Development and Fisheries. It is also involved in the Mexico delegation and in the Parliamentary Association EUROLAT for relations with Latin America. In the European elections 2014, it appears as number 3 of the FDP Federal list.

Meissner is a member of the European Union Parliamentarians European Parliament, Amnesty International and the German Country Women's Association.

Volunteering

It is committed to the Board of Trustees of the Albert -Schweitzer- family plant, the board of the Red Cross Children and Youth Foundation, the church council, the Social Chamber of the EKD and as Vice- President of the European Rail Forum.

Private

Meissner lives in Wennigsen ( Deister), is married and has two children. Her brother Lutz Winkelmann is member of parliament for the CDU.
