Gewogs of Bhutan

Housing association.

A Gewog ( Dzongkha for " block " ) is an administrative unit between village and Dzongkhag (District) in Bhutan. Each Gewog encompasses a group of villages and is governed by a so-called Gup. The 20 districts of Bhutan are divided into a total of 201 Gewogs, with a Gewog has an average area of 230 km ².

The Gewogs established under a program to decentralize the country, which followed the King of Bhutan Jigme Singye Wangchuck in the 1980s. Since 1991, the Gewogs are official administrative units.
