Ghazni Province

Ghazni ( Pashto غزني; Dari: غزنى ) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan. It lies in the east of the country close to Pakistan and has 1,092,000 inhabitants. The provincial capital is Ghazni. The province is an important station between the cities of Kabul and Kandahar.

History

Ghazni was the seat of the Ghaznavids who ruled over Khorasan and northern India. Up to Taliban rule lived in the province of some Sikhs and Hindus. This then fled out of the country and came back only with the expulsion of the Taliban.

How many southern provinces is Ghaznis precarious security situation, because the Taliban is again dominate many rural areas. Nevertheless, the situation is better than in the provinces of Helmand and Kandahar.
