Gheorghe Megelea

Gheorghe Megelea ( born March 14, 1954) is a Romanian athlete who was successful in the mid- 1970s as a javelin thrower. He won an Olympic bronze medal.

Megelea was three consecutive Romanian national champion:

His only international medal he won at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. The qualifications required width of 79 m outperformed with a throw of 80.26 m. In the final, he scored with his personal best 87.16 meters, a width on that day only by the Hungarian Miklós Németh, who set a new world record with 94.58 meters, and the Finn Hannu Siitonen, with the 87.92 m won silver, was exceeded.

Megelea whose best performance was located from 1975 at 83.64 m, threw in Montreal an excellent series with four throws over 82 m:

In 1977, he used a foreign trip to the UK in order to sell itself. After he moved to Canada.
