Gheorghe Mihali

Gheorghe " Gică " Mihali ( born December 9, 1965 in Baile Borsa ) is a former Romanian football player and current football coach. He played a total of 452 games in the Romanian Divizia A and the French Division 1 as a national player Mihali took part in the World Cup in 1994 and the European Football Championship 1996.

Career as a player

Mihali began with 12 years at Minerul Borsa in his home town of Baile Borsa, which belongs to the city of Borsa. On his services, the coach of the junior national team were attentive, whereupon Mihali was transferred to Luceafarul Bucharest. With 18 years he joined in 1984 the FC Olt Scorniceşti to which played into the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A. He made his debut on September 30, 1984 game against FC Arges Pitesti. With FC Olt Mihali fought mostly against relegation. After the club had been dissolved from the hometown of Nicolae Ceauşescu in the wake of political upheaval in the winter 1989/90, Mihali moved to league rivals FC Inter Sibiu. In Sibiu he wore in the 1990/91 season with the biggest success in club history, the 4th place in the Divizia A.

This success Mihali received in 1991 an offer from a Romanian giants, Dinamo Bucharest. Here he was immediately Romanian champion and national player. After four successful years Mihali ventured abroad and joined the playing in Division 1 club Guingamp. After two years the league had been done, he went with Guingamp at the end of the 1997/98 season in the Division 2 from.

Even during the following season left Mihali Guingamp and returned to Romania back to Dinamo Bucharest. Here he experienced the most successful years of his career by becoming a champion again in 2000 and in the years won the 2000 and the 2001 Romanian Cup. In 2001 Mihali ended his active career.

National

Mihali played 31 matches for the Romanian national football team, but without the possibility to score a goal. He made his debut on December 21, 1991 against Egypt. Mihali was nominated by coach Anghel Iordănescu for the Football World Cup 1994 in the U.S. and the European Football Championship in England in 1996, where he was deployed four or once. After the European Championships, he finished his career in the national team.

Career as a coach

Mihali was after the end of his active career in 2001 youth coach at Dinamo Bucharest and from August 26, 2002 assistant coach of the Romanian national U21 team. Following the resignation of Ilie Dumitrescu of 12 October 2002 as a result of the 0-2 defeat against Norway Mihali took over together with Florin Tene taking care of the Romanian U21 national team that defeated Luxembourg 2-0 on 16 October 2002. Then Nicolae Manea was introduced as the new coach and Mihali was the assistant coach in the second half of the season 2003/ 04 he was assistant coach of Ioan Lupescu at FCM Bacau and left the club at the same time Lupescu on 24 June 2004. During 2005 he took on, along with his longtime teammate Dorinel Munteanu training at CFR Cluj. In October 2006, the team moved to FC Arges Pitesti, but was discharged in April 2007. End of December 2007 was Mihali successor Ionel Augustin as coach of second division CSM Focsani. After the descent of the club in the League III, he announced on 17 May 2008. Mihali on 27 August 2008 was in the second division Universitatea Cluj assistant coach Dorinel Munteanu, whom he succeeded on 26 October 2008. In summer 2009, he moved to Dinamo Bucharest and became first coach of the second team. After seven games his team finished last in the league II and was then replaced Mihali October 3, 2009 by Costel Orac. He was an assistant coach instead of at the same time re- employed in the first team Marin ion. After only 20 days the team left the club and was hired by Al- Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia.
