Gherardo Starnina

Gherardo Starnina (* around 1360 in Florence, † 1413 ) was an Italian painter of the late Gothic period.

He is documented from 1387 to 1413.

According to Vasari, he was born in 1354, in Florence was a pupil of Antonio Veneziano, led, among other frescoes in the Castellani Chapel in Santa Croce in Florence, and then went to Spain, where he worked for John I of Castile. According to Vasari, he had continued in his youth very rough and coarse manners, quite contrary to his manners on his return to Florence from Spain - Vasari an example of the character-building effect of stays abroad. Also a documentary he is shown in Toledo and Valencia, where he painted altarpieces and frescoes. Frescoes in the San Blas chapel of the Cathedral of Toledo are attributed to him. In Spain, he was influenced by the international spread there late Gothic style.

Also, only in fragments preserved frescoes in the Jerome Chapel of Santa Maria del Carmine (Florence) is attributed.
