Ghibbelin of Arles

Ghibelin of Sabran (or Gibelin, * 1045, † 1112 in Jerusalem) was provenciale cleric, Archbishop of Arles, papal legate and Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.

He came of a noble family, which is named after the place in Sabran then the Holy Roman Empire that part of Provence.

He was appointed in 1080 at the Council of Avignon Archbishop of Arles, in which his predecessor Archbishop Aicard was deposed. He was consecrated by Pope Gregory VII. However, the clergy and people of Arles preferred Aicard, who was a relative of the Earl of Marseille, and partisans of the Roman-German king / emperor Henry IV against Pope Gregory VII was.
