GhostBSD

GhostBSD is a free Unix - derivative, which was launched by Eric Turgeon and Nahuel Sanchez 2010. The two met in the official forum of FreeBSD and decided there together to create a FreeBSD distribution, which relies on the Gnome desktop. The operating system is based on the source code of FreeBSD and thus belongs to the family of BSD operating systems. It is currently running on PCs with i386 -based processor and AMD64 architectures.

Development

The first version 1.0 was released on March 12, 2010 and was only usable as Live-CD/DVD. It was based on FreeBSD 8 and GNOME 2.28. The version was placed under the motto " GhostBSD go green" to the network, since the developers were trying to trim the operating system to a low power usage.

The second version 1.5 was deployed on 29 July 2010 to download and is based on FreeBSD 8.1 and GNOME 2.30. Compiz is integrated as well as the Linux binary compatibility. GhostBSD is now installed with the help of pc- sysinstall, but will continue to use it as Live-CD/DVD.

For version 2.0, which was released in March 2011, a graphical installer has been integrated. Version 2.5 was released on 24 January 2012 and is based on FreeBSD 9.0.
