GHQ Line

The General Headquarters Line was a British, created during World War II defensive line. This applied as the main defensive position line should protect the Greater London and the Middle English industrial area. This defense system begins at the north end of the Taunton Stop Line near the town of Highbridge in Somerset, then runs along the River Brue and the Kennet and Avon Canal to Reading, south around London via Guildford and Aldershot after Canvey Iceland and Great Chesterford in Essex before it ends in the north in Yorkshire. This line of defense was built against a potential German invasion of England ( Operation Sea Lion ). The position consisted of so-called pillbox bunkers.
