Ghulam Ishaq Khan

Ghulam Ishaq Khan ( Urdu غلام اسحاق خان, born January 20, 1915 in Bannu, NWFP, † October 27, 2006 in Peshawar ) was a Pakistani politician and President of Pakistan 17 August 1988 to 18 July 1993.

Before Ghulam Ishaq Khan was President of Pakistan, he worked in various irrigation projects in West Pakistan and later moved to the Ministry of Finance, to finally become finance minister.

In 1985, he was shortly after he was elected Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan to win a Senate seat. Immediately after the death of Muhammad Zia -ul- Haq in 1988, Khan was elected acting president in accordance with the constitutional rules of order and was formally in the position. He retained the position of President until 1993.
