Ghulam Mustafa Khar

Ghulam Mustafa Khar (* 1938) is a Pakistani politician.

Life

Khar comes from a landowner family from the Punjab in Pakistan. The family belongs to the tribe of Kharral. He was the eldest son of eight children, his mother, his father's third wife. He grew up in Kot Addu. In 1962, he received a seat in the National Assembly. 1967 was founded by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the moderate socialist oriented Pakistan People's Party (PPP). Mustafa Khar was one of its founding members and a confidant of the future prime minister. He became governor and military commander of the Punjab in 1972, from 1973 to 1974 he was Head of Government of the Punjab. He was considered the second most powerful politician in Pakistan. After he was ousted because Bhutto feared Khar might want to take his post. Khar resigned from the PPP. After the military coup in 1977 by General Muhammad Zia -ul- Haq Khar went into exile.

Khar was married seven times and is the father of ten children. His sixth wife Tehmina Durrani in 1990 published an autobiography, in which she describes him as a charismatic politician and at the same time as brutal bat against its dependent women.

Later Khar rejoined the PPP. In the second reign of Benazir Bhutto von 1993 - 1996 Khar was water and energy minister.

Hina Rabbani Khar His niece is Pakistani Foreign Minister since 2011.
