Giacinto Ghia

Giacinto Ghia [ dʒatʃɪnto gia ] (not [ dʒia ] ) ( born September 18, 1887 in Turin, † February 21, 1944 ) was an Italian coachbuilder. He founded in 1915 the company Carrozzeria Ghia, which is one of the most famous car designers.

Curriculum vitae

Ghia was born as the third son of an accountant. At age 13, he joined a coach builder to work later at Rapid and test driver Diatto. In 1915, he broke both legs in an accident and had to give up the activity.

With a partner, he founded Garaglio Ghia and Garaglio and built bodies for Diatto, Itala and SCAT. Later Ghia made ​​for Fiat, Lancia, Chrysler, Alfa Romeo and Isotta Fraschini. During the war Ghia produced military equipment and bicycles. 1944, the plants were almost completely destroyed in an air raid. Ghia fell ill and died shortly after.
