Giacinto Sertorelli

Giacinto " Cinto " Sertorelli ( born January 1, 1915 in Bormio, † January 28, 1938 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen ) was an Italian alpine skier. He is two-time medal winner at World Ski Championships.

Biography

Sertorelli was the seventh of eleven children of Costante Sertorelli to the world. With enthusiasm he followed the passion of his older brothers for skiing: Erminio took a cross-country skiers at the Olympic Winter Games in 1932, Stefano was a member of the Italian military patrol team. At the age of five he was himself the first time on skis and denied first descents.

In 1931, he won the Italian Junior Championships in Asiago slalom, earning the applause of the art attending coaches. When changing to the senior level, he decided, however, to focus on the downhill run. At this time, he met the Austrian coach Leo Gasperl know who had gathered the best of Italy to downhill in Claviere. He recognized Sertorellis talent and became his sponsor.

In advance of the Olympic Winter Games in 1936 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, where for the first time alpine competitions were on the program, the Italian skiers went to Sestriere. There Sertorelli prevailed in the team 's internal qualification. In the Olympic race he had finished the exit number 9. In the slalom at the Gudiberg it looked a long time for a top spot for him. Two weeks later he was beaten at the World Ski Championships in Innsbruck in the downhill only the Swiss Rudolf Rominger. In return, he was received in his hometown of Bormio with great applause.

In the following winter Sertorelli participated in 16 international races. 12 he won, he was second twice. At the World Cup in Chamonix, he repeated his success from the previous year and won behind the Frenchman Émile Allais turn the silver medal.

At the international ski week in Garmisch -Partenkirchen in January 1938, he took part in Kandahar. On icy route he was to mean in the first place.
