Giacomo Biffi
Giacomo Cardinal Biffi ( born June 13, 1928 in Milan, Italy) is a retired archbishop of Bologna.
Life
Giacomo Biffi completed a study of Catholic theology and philosophy awarded the degree of Doctor of Divinity. Subsequently, he worked as a chaplain in the working-class town and Legnano in Milan. On December 23, 1950, he received at the age of 22 years by Cardinal Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster, OSB, the sacrament of Holy Orders and was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Milan. Subsequently, he taught dogmatic theology at the seminary of Milan, and wrote numerous theological books and articles. He also knew a few years the role of the Bishop Vicar for Cultural Affairs of the Archdiocese of Milan.
On December 7, 1975 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Fidenae and auxiliary bishop in Milan. He received his episcopal consecration Cardinal Giovanni Colombo on January 11, 1976 Co-consecrators were the suffragans of Milan Bernardo Citterio and Libero Tresoldi. On April 19, 1984, Pope John Paul II appointed Archbishop of Bologna and took him on 25 May 1985 as Cardinal Priest of Santi Giovanni Evangelista church with title e Petronio in the College of Cardinals to.
On 16 December 2003 John Paul II Biffis adopted for reasons of age pre- mounted resignation. Biffi after the death of John Paul II in part at the conclave of 2005. In April 2009, Cardinal Biffi was special envoy of Benedict XVI. at the celebrations of the 900th anniversary of the death of Saint Anselm of Aosta. At the conclave in 2013, he did not attend because he had the age limit of 80 years already passed.
Work
The cardinal emphasized that the Christian faith is not just any collection and juxtaposition of relative values such as solidarity, peace and environmental protection, but faith in Jesus Christ the Son of God and his resurrection. He refers in his Meditations on the Russian philosopher Vladimir Sergeyevich Solovyov ( " The Anti-Christ presented himself as a pacifist, environmentalist and as ecumenicist " ) and refers to the necessity of everlasting communion with Jesus Christ.
Caused a stir in September 2000 Biffis repeated proposal, immigrants from Christian countries such as Poland or the Philippines over those to prefer from Muslim countries in order to preserve the Christian identity of Italy and Europe. Mosques should be built in Europe in the future only if both churches should arise in the Muslim countries.
