Giacomo Filippo Fransoni

Giacomo Filippo Fransoni ( born December 10, 1775 in Genoa, † April 20, 1856 ) was an Italian bishop and cardinal and prefect of the Congregation De Propaganda Fide.

Life

Giacomo Filippo Fransoni was ordained a priest on March 14, 1807, at the age of 31 by Pietro Francesco Galleffi.

On September 7, 1822 he was ordained Titular Archbishop of Nazianzus and appointed three months later on 21 January 1823 Apostolic Nuncio in Portugal. On 2 October 1826, he was called by Pope Leo XII. included as Cardinal Priest of Santa Maria in Aracoeli in the College of Cardinals.

On November 21, 1834 Fransoni was appointed Prefect of the Congregation De Propaganda Fide at the Curia. On September 28, 1855, he was called by Pope Pius IX. elevated to Cardinal Priest of San Lorenzo in Lucina.

Cardinal Fransoni died on April 20, 1856 at the age of 80 years. He was a priest for 49 years, 33 years and nearly 30 years of Cardinal Bishop.
