Gian Paolo Lomazzo

Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo (* April 26, 1538 in Milan, † February 13, 1600 ibid ) was a painter, art historian and art theorist. His work is attributable to the mannerism.

Works by Lomazzo found in Milan, among others in the churches Sta Maria della Passione, San Marco and San Vittore.

Once the artist had gone blind at the age of 33 years due to a disease star, he turned to the creation of art-theoretical writings.

Publications

His art major theoretical work Trattato dell'arte della Pittura ( treatise on the art of painting ) ( 7 volumes ) was published in 1584 in Milan and was such a success that it was translated into English and French. Further works are
