Giancarlo Giannini

Giancarlo Giannini ( born August 1, 1942 in La Spezia ) is an Italian actor.

Life and career

Giannini, the son of a naval officer, spent his childhood in Naples. After a degree in electrical engineering, he attended Accademia d' Arte Drammatica, they did not lead to an end, as a theater director Beppe Menegatti Giannini wanted to engage in all circumstances for his production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. With this piece an extraordinary career began on stage, on television and in films where he had given his acting debut in the 1965 short film Fango sulla metropolis. Until the late 1970s, he starred in numerous successful and artistically notable films in his native country; particularly frequent, he worked with Lina Wertmuller. After he had particularly concentrated in the 1980s to synchronous work, but had also in foreign productions ( as Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Rick Rosenthal and Douglas Hickox ) played, he was employed in the following decade internationally and can look back on an amazing number of works.

Large television successes were Giannini 1965 David Copperfield and 1971 e le stelle stanno a guardare. In 1986, Giannini turned to the first and last times, the film director. Ternosecco was staged in the style of Wertmueller grotesque.

Among the international roles were those of the Inspector Pazzi in the movie Hannibal (2001) and his appearances as René Mathis in the James Bond films Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace those who Giannini got acquainted with a younger audience. His work list now includes almost 140 roles in the late 2000s in television series.

Giannini was 1967-1975 married to the writer and director Livia Giampalmo. From this marriage he has two children: Lorenzo ( born 1967) and Adriano (born 1971 ), who is also an actor. In 1983 he married fellow actress Eurilla del Bono and the couple have two children also.

Awards

At the International Film Festival of Cannes 1973 Giannini was awarded the Best Actor award for his role in Lina Wertmueller film love and anarchy. For his role in the film Seven Beauties (1975 ) he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.

1973, 1974, 1999 and 2001 was the Nastro d' Argento to Giannini; 1972, 1984 and 2004, a David di Donatello.
