Giancarlo Martini

Giancarlo Martini ( born August 16, 1947 in Lavezzola, † March 26 2013 in Forli ) was an Italian racing driver and entrepreneur. He is in some sources referred to as co-founder of Formula 1 team Minardi, the first time in 1985 took part in the Formula 1 World Championship, and the uncle of longtime Minardi pilot Pierluigi Martini.

Racing career

Giancarlo Martini was with the Scuderia del Passatore, the team of his long-time friend Giancarlo Minardi, in 1972 winning the runner-up title in 1973 and the title in the Formula Italia. In 1974, he played for the team two races of the Formula 2 European Championship with a March - BMW from 1975 to 1977 he was a regular rider of the team that took at this time under different names. His best results were two third places in 1976, he completed his best season with 12 points as seventh from the championship.

Martini denied in 1976, two not for the World Cup scoring formula 1 race in a Ferrari 312T, the Scuderia Ferrari had left to the time designated as Team Everest team Minardi loan. At the Race of Champions at Brands Hatch Martini had an accident in which the car was badly damaged already during the formation lap. In the BRDC International Trophy at Silverstone he came in tenth.
