Giandomenico Basso

Giandomenico Basso ( born September 15, 1973 in Montebelluna ) is an Italian rally driver.

Career

Giandomenico Basso began his career in 1981 in karting in 1994 and drove his first rally. In 1998 he was in the Fiat Seicento Sporting in the Rallye San Remo made ​​his debut in the World Rally Championship. In 2001 he started in the Fiat Punto S1600 Rally in the World Youth Championship. With two JWRC podium finishes, he finished fifth in the championship. In 2002 he drove in the JWRC three times on the podium, finishing fourth at the end of the season the championship course.

From 2003 Basso sat his career in the World Rally Championship and the Italian Rally Championship continues. In the Italian championship in 2003, he was runner-up. In the ERC, he scored third place in the Rally Mille Miglia eleventh place in the drivers' standings. As of 2004, he went with his new co-driver Mitia Dotta at the start. Basso won the Rally Mille Miglia and finished the season in sixth place in the Championship ERC and finished fourth in the Italian championship. In 2005, he played a full season for the first time in the ERC. He was victorious in the Rally of Bulgaria and the EKO Rally and finished three more rallies in second place. In the fight for the title, he was beaten by only three points Renato Travaglia.

The Fiat plant team was from the 2006 season a stronger Fiat Grande Punto Abarth S2000, with the Basso now denied rallies. He scored in the ERC victories in the Fiat Rally, the Belgium Ypres Rally Westhoek, the Rally of Bulgaria and the Rali Vinho da Madeira and was so superior European Rally Champion. He was a regular on the podium and finished three rallies as the winner. At the end of the season he had the most points and so was the Italian Rally Champion. In his guest appearances in the IRC, he also won the Rali Vinho da Madeira and finished second in the Rally of San Remo. The successes ranged for fifth place in the overall standings of the IRC.

From 2008 Basso went with the Fiat factory team now most of the season in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge at the start. There, he won victories at the Rally Principe de Asturias and the San Remo Rally and finished the championship in third place. Basso won the 2009 Rali Vinho da Madeira and finished fifth overall in the IRC. He was now back in the World Rally Championship at the start, in which he very successfully in sections with a total of seven ERC wins and for the second time in three years became European Champion. In 2010, Basso again participate in the Italian championship. He remained, however, without a win and finished the season in fourth championship course.

After the 2010 season, Basso left his longtime employer Fiat. After the Monte Carlo Rally in 2011 initially denied a privately-entered Peugeot 207 S2000, he was taken from proton factory team under contract. With the Proton Satria Neo S2000 he graduated in the IRC in 2011 a program of six rallies.
