Gianina Ernst

Gianina Ernst ( born December 31, 1998 Samedan ) is a German ski jumper and the daughter of the German ski jumper Joachim Ernst and the Swiss cross-country skier Cornelia Thomas. By June 2013, they started for the Swiss Ski Association.

Sports career

On March 2, 2013 Gianina Ernst started for the first time in the Continental Cup and reached in to the Fichtelbergbahn hill in Oberwiesenthal the 15th Place. In the overall standings, she took 24th place.

To kick off the Alpine Cup season 2013/14 Ernst won both competitions in Poehla and second place in the fourth competition in Ochsenkopfschanze in Bischofsgruen. In the summer season of the Continental Cup, she completed both competitions in Lillehammer and reached the ninth and sixth place, which they placed seventh in the final classification. At the German Championships 2013 in Oberstdorf, she won in the junior category and silver in the women's class bronze.

At their first use in the Ski Jumping World Cup on December 7, 2013 Lillehammer Ernst reached together with Daniela Iraschko Pride in second place and thus also her first World Cup podium. Through this placement, she qualified for participation in the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 and was 15 years old the youngest participant of the Olympic Games in Russia. If only she was born four hours later, then they would not have been allowed to start. In Sochi, she jumped at the 28th place.
