Gianluca Basile

Gianluca Basile ( born January 24, 1975 in Ruvo di Puglia, Apulia ) is an Italian professional basketball player. He is primarily known as a good shooter from beyond the three- point line, earning him the nickname " Mandarineri " brought in his home country and is regarded as one of the specialists of " tiro Ignorant" ( German " Wilder", but also emergency three- point shot ). Since 2012 he plays for the club " EA7 Emporio Armani " in Milan.

Club career

With Pallacanestro Reggiana where he stood in the senior squad since 1995, Basile rose in 1997 in the series A1. During the 1998/99 season he changed to Fortitude Bologna, where he remained until 2005. With this club he was in 2000 and 2005 Italian champion and reached the finals in 2004 and 2001, the semi-finals of Euro League. In addition, Basile was awarded in Serie A for the Regular Season 2004 and the final 2005 series in each case as MVP. It was followed by the transfer to FC Barcelona, with whom he was able to celebrate the Spanish Cup victory in 2010 and winning the Euro League 2007. After he was able to be used in the season 2010/11 because of an injury only in a championship game, Basile left the Catalan club and returned to his home, where he first played for the Italian vice-champion of Cantù. After one season he moved in 2012 to Olimpia Milano, which operates under the name " EA7 Armani Jeans".

National team career

Basile was for years a fixture in the national team, with whom he won the title at the Eurobasket 1999. Following the resignation of Carlton Myers 2001 he was the regular player at his position and was among other top scorer of the national team in the finals during the Olympic Games 2004. Alone in the semi-final goal against Lithuania Basile 31 points, including through seven successful three-point throws at eleven experiments. After leaving in the second round of the World Basketball Championship in 2006 against Lithuania, in its final seconds he had awarded three free throws, he wanted to resign, especially since his successor was found in Marco Belinelli, but coach Carlo Recalcati could persuade him to continue. In the subsequent European Basile disappointed, however, and remained in four of its six games without a hit from the field.
