Gianluigi Gelmetti

Gianluigi Gelmetti ( born September 11, 1945 in Rome ) is an Italian conductor and composer.

He completed his studies with Franco Ferrara, Sergiu Celibidache and Hans Swarovsky. For the first time he has conducted over 16 years of a symphony orchestra at the " Accademia Musicale Chigiana " in Siena.

For many years held the position as Chief Conductor of the SWR Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (1989-1995) and the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra (1990-1992) Gelmetti. In 2001 he was appointed chief conductor of the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome.

In 1984 Gelmetti debuted with the Seventh Symphony by Hans Werner Henze with the Berlin Philharmonic. His first guest conducting at the Sydney Symphony Orchestra had Gelmetti in the year 1993. 2004 he was appointed artistic director and chief conductor of the orchestra. In 1997 he was appointed professor of conducting at the " Accademia Musicale Chigiana " in Siena.

Among his compositions algos ( for orchestra), Prasanta Atma ( in memory of Sergiu Celibidache ), and In Paradisum Deducant Te Angeli.
