Gianni Amelio
Gianni Amelio ( born January 20, 1945 in San Pietro di Magisano, Catanzaro ) is an Italian film director.
Life
After studying philosophy Amelio came in the second half of the 1960's years at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (CSC ) and worked as an assistant director, often for Gianni Puccini. In 1967 he directed his first feature film and earned in subsequent years a good reputation both in the cinema as well as with his television work. The early 1990's were named Best Film at the European Film Awards three of his films. He still holds the record. Also in Cannes and Venice, he was successful in the respective film festivals. 2008 Amelio took over from his compatriot Nanni Moretti the management of the Torino Film Festival.
