Gianni Lonzi
Gianni Lonzi (* August 4, 1938 in Florence) is a former Italian water polo player.
Gianni Lonzi played in the club for Rari Nantes Florence Rari Nantes Camogli and Pro Recco, with Pro Recco won the 1967 and 1968 the Italian league title.
As a player Lonzi participated in three Olympic water polo tournaments. Before a home crowd in Rome in 1960 won the Italian team the gold medal, Lonzi played in the first round only in a game with, but then it was in all the games. 1964 and 1968 the Italian team took fourth place respectively. Lonzi reached a total of twenty missions in the Olympics.
In the 1970s Lonzi was coach of the Italian national team, he led the team to the 1976 Olympic silver medal and 1978 to win the title at the World Championships. 1977 and 1982 he was involved as a coach on winning the European Junior Championship. Since 1988 Lonzi is vice chairman of the European Water Polo Committee, since 1996 has been Chairman of the Technical Commission for water polo at the FINA.
Lonzi is married to the Olympic fencing champion Antonella Ragno Lonzi. In 2009 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
