Giants' grave

The Giants' Tombs are the largest pränuraghischen cult facilities in Sardinia. Like the great rock tombs ( Sos Furrighesos ), the Domus de Janas they are monuments of Bonnyrigg culture ( 2200-1600 BC), the forerunner of the nuragic culture. The zigantes in Sardu Tumbas de los Italian and plur. Tombe dei Giganti buildings mentioned include ( in the Exedra ) Europe's latest megalithic sites.

Portal Tele

The outstanding element of the plants of the first generation of giants tombs is the phallic, up to 4 m high portal Tele in the center of the exedra. Unique in its kind, the exedra of the known 321 plants have one hand similarities with the Irish court tombs, and the Scottish Clyde tombs and on the other hand with the Maltese exedrae temple.

Development

Structurally occur giants' tombs in two variants. Once with portal stelae, similar to the approaches of the great rock tombs imitate the partly portal stelae; of that type, which presents itself in Li Lolghi, Coddu Vecchiu, Province of Olbia- Tempio, or both in S'Ena ' e Thomes in Dorgali. Later systems such as Muraguada and Tamuli, however, are not provided with central stele. With the investment of Madau (NU ) is apparent that the Exedra is built of concrete blocks on an overturned portal Tele, which clearly defines the sequence.

As a starting point for the construction of giant tombs of the U-shaped dolmen S'Ena ' e sa Vacca at Olzai, in the province of Nuoro (NU) is considered. At the facilities of Coddu Vecchiu and Li Lolghi is clear that exedrae were correlated with portal stelae later in front of existing rectangular gallery or cists. These tags are not restricted to the Gallura, which apparently joins a past development elsewhere. A falling in the same time unit is the dolmen Sculacacca at Oniferi, which is unique. Next to Abbasanta is the system of Sos Ozzastros with only 3.4 meters long and one meter wide gallery, one of the smallest giant tombs. It has a semicircular exedra are on which bench-like stems.

The most narrow galleries, which are often accessible only through a tiny passage at the bottom of the portal Tele may be up to 24 m long. In the design of the gallery there are different variations. Some, like the later protonuraghi, provided with horizontal DOMICILED ceiling panel ( S'Ena ' e Thomes ), others with false vaults (Is Concias, Muraguada and Madau ). In the ceiling expansion of the galleries there is also the combination of the horizontal plate and vault (San Cosimo Province of Cagliari (CA ) ).

In such a gallery were found up to 136 skeletons. The cultural continuity between the large rock chambers and outdoor architecture is formed by the Baityloi or their locations. They are both some rock grave portals as well as ( then with dental friezes ) or next giant tombs (Is Concias, Tamuli ).
