Giekau

Giekau is a municipality in the district of Plön, in Schleswig- Holstein. The municipality consists of the villages Dransau, Engelau, Fresendorf gift of God, Neuhaus, oil Böhm, Seekrug, Vörstenmoor and Warderhof.

A stone church from the 13th century is the focal point of the community.

Geography and transport

Giekau is located about 6 km north- west of Luetjenburg. To Giekau owns a part of the Selenter lake. Federal highway 202 runs through the territory of the municipality. From 1910 to 1938, Neuhaus station on the narrow gauge railway Kirchbarkau - Preetz Luetjenburg.

History

The community Giekau belonged to the estate Neuhaus, which was one of the largest Holstein goods before the First World War. One of the landowners was Frederick II von Hahn ( 1742-1805 ).

Policy

Of the eleven seats in the municipal council have the CDU and the voter community AWG since the local elections 2008 four seats and the SPD has three seats in the municipal council.
