Giesen

Giesen is a municipality in the district of Hildesheim, in Lower Saxony, located at the heart at the northern edge of the Weser -Leine Bergland. The main village of the municipality is Giesen.

Geography

Geographical Location

Giesen is just west of the heart and immediately north of the Giesener mountains. The municipality borders clockwise from the northeast Harsum, Hildesheim, Nordstemmen and Sarstedt. The location at the heart proved in October 2007 as problematic as in the villages Giesen (formerly Small Giesen ) and Ahrbergen the flood of the century numerous cellar, complete Ahrberger forest and an entire industrial area were flooded.

History

The community Giesen was established on 1 March 1974 by merging the municipalities Ahrbergen, Emmerke, United Förste, United Giesen, Giesen Hasede and small. The oldest of these villages is Emmerke. There, the 1150 - year anniversary was celebrated in 2004.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was issued in 1974, when the community was founded Giesen. It is composed of six components of the coat of arms of towns Ahrbergen, Emmerke, United Giesen, Giesen Small, Large and Förste Hasede:

  • The red nails and yellow background of the coat of arms of the United Giesen.
  • The lily from the arms of small Giesen.
  • The mill wheel from the arms of Great Förste.
  • The standing in the triangle rabbit ears from the arms of Hasede.
  • The standing at a 45 % angle battlements of the Coat of Arms of Emmerke.

  • The Green background of the upper part comes from both the arms of Hasede and from the coat of arms of the United Förste.
  • The silver color of the upper ornaments comes from both the coat of arms of the United Förste and from the small Giesener crest.

Religions

Of the current 9,954 inhabitants, 45.1% are Roman Catholic, 34.6 % Evangelical Lutheran, the remaining 20.3% belong to another denomination or no to.

The Ostniedersachsen for atypical high proportion of Catholics is based on the historical affiliation with the little pin Hildesheim. The villages of the church today Giesen were as much as Harsum to the pin villages.

Traffic

The district Emmerke is accessible as a " station Giesen " by train, although Emmerke is located about 4 km from the other districts. The station is served by line S 4 S-Bahn Hannover and of the North Western Railway.

The districts are connected to the bus lines of regional transport Hildesheim ( RVHi ) with each other and with the cities Sarstedt and Hildesheim.

The historic tram in 1958 was abandoned. The Federal Highway 6 and State Road 1 run through the municipality.

Largest companies in Giesen has long been the company K S with the mine Siegfried, whose potash tailings pond is still widely visible. Sports

Although Giesen with 3,000 inhabitants, is a small village, the TSV Giesen in the German Volleyball is established in the 2nd Bundesliga Men for years. Before the Game Round 2007/2008 some players of league rivals MTV 1848 Hildesheim switching to the club. In response, the second division team from Hildesheim disbanded. The newly formed team Giesener 2008, the ascent is done in the first volleyball league and played in the 2008/2009 season, after which they decline again in the second league. In the season 2010/11 and 2011/12 TSV Giesen/48 Hildesheim each champion in the 2nd Bundesliga Nord, but renounced every time from financial and human resources to the promotion to the 1st Bundesliga.
