The station Gifu - Hashima (Japanese岐阜 羽 岛 駅, Gifu - Hashima -eki ) is located in the suburbs of Gifu Hashima in Japan.

Gifu - Hashima is served by the following lines:

  • JR Central Tōkaidō Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin- Osaka
  • Meitetsu Hashima - line connection via the Takehana line and the Nagoya Main Line to Gifu

Design and tracks

Gifu - Hashima is a through station with 6 tracks and 2 platforms. The middle two tracks are crossing tracks, the two platforms are direction platforms ( tracks 0 and 1 for Tokyo, 2 and 3 towards Osaka ). The tracks outside 0 and 3 will not drive runs regularly.

History

After a southern route of the Tōkaidō Shinkansen was abandoned over the mountains at Suzuka especially for technical and financial reasons, the necessity arose of a train station in Gifu Prefecture: In order for the wintry snow conditions in the area around Sekigahara in the west of Gifu and to be prepared resulting breakdowns, in addition to the scheduled moderately powered four tracks sidings were established. When selecting the location of the station within the prefecture of local politicians Ōno Bamboku negotiated for the prefectural government with the then state-owned railway company JR and reached that city Gifu was not large-scale avoided. The station Gifu - Hashima is therefore seen as a politician station. For the Ōno and his wife died in 1964 a bronze statue was erected in front of the station.

Through the private Meitetsu the Shinkansen train station to the neighboring Gifu is connected, but is in practice for most residents of the Gifu Gifu station about 20 minute train ride away Nagoya station the more comfortable access to the northwest Shinkansen.

The station Gifu - Hashima was opened on 1 October 1964. On December 11, 1982, the station Shin- Hashima was on the still rural station forecourt opened as a new connection Meitetsu Hashima - line to the existing already near Takehana - line, but still the traffic between Gifu - Hashima and Gifu relatively sparse.
