Gigi (1951 play)

Gigi is a boulevard comedy that premiered on Broadway on November 24, 1951.

The piece is based on the novel by the French author Sidonie Gigi -Gabrielle Colette, which was edited by Anita Loos for the stage. Gigi is the story of a young girl who gets to know love.

The main and title role was played by a young, unknown actress named Audrey Hepburn. The piece was praised by critics and was also financially successful. 1952 Audrey Hepburn won for the Theater World Award.

The play ran for six months, and led to the big screen debut of Audrey Hepburn in a heart and a crown, with which she won an Academy Award.

Director of the play was Raymond Roulear and Gilbert Miller produced it.

In the London performance Leslie Caron took over the lead role.
