Gigi is a musical by Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner. The stage version follows the musical film Gigi from 1958, which was also the result of collaboration between the two authors. On November 13, 1973, the musical had in New York at the Uris (now Gershwin ) Theatre world premiere. Directed by Joseph Hardy, the choreography took Onna White; Alfred Drake played the lead role.

The German -language premiere in a translation by Robert Gilbert was held at the Theater an der Wien on 24 October 1974. In the German-speaking stages Johannes Heesters celebrated mid-1970s great successes in the role of Honoré Lachaille. In London's West End, the play was first performed on September 19, 1985 at the Lyric Theatre.

Action

The action takes place in Paris around the turn of the century ( 1900): Honoré Lachaille tells the audience the story of " little girls ". His nephew Gaston is a frequent guest at Inez and their granddaughter, Gigi. Gaston sees Gigi, which is brought up by Inez and her sister Alicia to a good society lady, a little, not serious child. After he has finished his last affair due to lack of loyalty, he invites Gigi and Inez to take a holiday and for which he takes a liking to Gigi. He acts with Inez from a treaty that will make Gigi to his courtesan, but without their knowledge. Gigi is offended, but because he recognizes her love for her and asks her " all due respect " for her hand.
