Gigi Tsereteli

Giorgi ( Gigi ) Tsereteli (Georgian გიორგი ( გიგი ) წერეთელი; born February 23, 1964 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian politician (United National Movement ). From 2000 to 2004 he was Vice President of the Georgian Parliament. From February 2004 to May 2004 he was Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia. Since June 2008 he is again Parliament vice president.

Life

Profession

Giorgi Tsereteli studied from 1980 until 1986. From 1987 to 1993 he worked as a neurologist. He then worked as CEO for the International Business Company in Moscow. In 2005 he received a certificate in economics and finance international health at Boston University School of Public Health.

Party politicians

In 1995 Tsereteli in politics. Tsereteli was first a member of the former President's party Georgian citizens Union. There he was one of the young reformers. In January 2002, he moved with the later Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania on in the party leadership. A few months later he founded with Zhvania the opposition party United Democratic Party. At the 2003 parliamentary elections, he joined in an electoral alliance with Parliament Speaker Nino Burjanadze as Burjanadze - Democrats, which in February 2004 with the run of Mikheil Saakashvili National Movement - Democratic Front ( EMDP ) for the National Movement - Democrats ( NMD ) merged. He is a board member of what has become the United National Movement Party renamed.

Local politicians

From 1996 to 1998, Tsereteli, Vice Mayor, and from October 1998 Leader of the Georgian Civil Union in the city council of Tbilisi.

Parliamentarian

Since November 1999, Tsereteli is a member of the Georgian parliament. Until February 2000 he was chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Regional Policy, February 2000 to January 2004 Parliament vice president. From 2004 to 2008 he was chairman of the parliamentary committee on health and social issues. In June 2008 he was re-elected Vice President of the Georgian Parliament.

Tsereteli is chairman of the parliamentary delegation at the Congress of the United States, member of the executive committee of the European Parlamentarforums, chairman of the parliamentary union of the RHSR and member of the parliamentary Gender Council.

Minister

In February 2004, Tsereteli, Georgian Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister. On 3 May 2004, he resigned from his government posts.

Tsereteli is honorary president of the chess club NTN Tbilisi, President of the Children's Baseball League, Honorary President of the Union of diabetic and endocrine Alliance, Honorary President of the Table Tennis Federation, Honorary Vice- President of the Society of Automotive friends, chairman of the National Alliance of early childhood development as well as a member of the association of neurologists and psychiatrists.

Private

Tsereteli is married and has two children. He speaks Georgian, Russian and English.
