Gijs de Vries

Gijs de Vries ( born February 22, 1956 in New York) is a Dutch politician of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy ( VVD).

Life

De Vries was between 1998 and 2002 Deputy Minister of the Interior. On March 25, 2004, he was anti-terrorism co-ordinator of the European Union. As such, he worked under Javier Solana in the field of police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters; this is one of the three pillars of the European Union. According to Solana, his duties consisted mainly of rationalization, organization and coordination of anti-terrorist measures by the European Union and its members. His term ended in March 2007.
