Gil Amelio

Gilbert Frank Amelio (* March 1, 1943 in New York City ) is an American physicist and manager.

Amelio studied physics and received his doctorate at the Georgia Institute of Technology. In 1991 he received the IEEE Masaru Ibuka Consumer Electronics Award for his contribution to the development of CCD sensors.

He was Chief Executive Officer of National Semiconductor from 1991 to 1996 and then as the successor to Michael Spindler CEO of Apple. He was replaced by Steve Jobs in 1997.
