Gil Gerard

Gil Gerard ( born January 23, 1943 in Little Rock, Arkansas ) is an American actor. He starred in several feature films, including The Man on the swings, Lost in the Bermuda Triangle or Hooch. Mainly, however, he was known in the late 1970s for his role of Captain Buck Rogers in the popular American science fiction television series.

Life and career

Gil Gerard was born in 1943 in Little Rock, in the state of Arkansas, the son of a high school teacher and a Salesman. During his school years at the Little Rock Catholic High School for Boys, he became interested in acting. In 1960 he attended the Maryknoll Seminary in Glen Ellyn, Illinois and played the title role in the production of The Music Man. Later, Gerard studied at the University of Central Arkansas, but interrupted his studies before the conclusion from. Gerard initially proposed a the career of the industrial chemist and within a few years to the regional manager of a large chemical company, which was under the leadership of Governor Winthrop Rockefeller. As it was, however, denied to Vice President due to his lack of academic degree of further career advancement, he announced.

Later he went to New York where he studied drama during the day and at night worked as a taxi driver. Finally he succeeded in entering the film and television industry on commercials, including as spokesman for the Ford Motor Company. After the first minor roles in the early 1970s in films such as Some of My Best Friends Are in 1971 by director Mervyn Nelson and the thriller The Man on the Swing ( 1974) by director Frank Perry, he established himself with a prominent role as Dr. Alan Stewart from 1974 to 1976 in the television series the Doctors.

He then founded his own production company with partners and realized with the action-comedy Hooch 1977 his first feature film as a producer, actor and co-author. At this time he also met the director and actor Michael Landon know, the first in his series Little House and a year later in 1978 as a leading actor cast him in his TV drama Crying wrong.

After the previous successes and the growing awareness of one Gil Gerard finally offered the role of Captain William Buck Rogers in the produced by Glen A. Larson science fiction television series created between 1979 and 1981. Gerard was married from 1979 to 1987 to actress Connie Sellecca. From this marriage comes a common son.
