Gil Paterson

Gil Paterson ( born November 11, 1942 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party.

Paterson came in 1967 in the SNP. In 1973 he made himself professionally independent and led its operation until his election in 1999. First joined Paterson in 1980 with the election in the constituency of Glasgow Central to, but was defeated by Labour candidate Robert McTaggart markedly and thus failed to reach the House of Commons. Another time Paterson stepped up to new elections, this time in 1987 for the constituency of Strathkelvin and Bearsden. With a vote share of only 7.4%, however, he could not opt for this choice also.

In the Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 Paterson ran as candidate of the SNP in the constituency of Airdrie and Shotts, but lost Karen Whitefield of the Labour Party clearly. On the basis of the election results, he moved as an emissary of the election Region Central Scotland one on the regional list in the newly created Scottish Parliament. In the following 2003 parliamentary elections, he ran again for Airdrie and Shotts, not won with a voting share of 20.9 %, however, the direct mandate. Since these elections only three candidates of the regional list for Central Scotland moved into the Parliament, the fourth-placed Paterson no mandate obtained at this time. 2007 Paterson candidate for the constituency of Clydebank and Milngavie. He was there though increase the voting share of the SNP, but did not win the direct mandate against the Labour candidate Des McNulty. However, due to its placement on the regional list of polling Region West Scotland he retained his parliamentary seat. At the 2011 parliamentary elections Paterson won the direct mandate for Clydebank and Milngavie first time.
