Gila Almagor

Gila Almagor (Hebrew גילה אלמגור, born Aviya Aleksandrowitz, born July 22, 1939 in Petah Tikva ) is an Israeli writer and actress.

Biography

Gila Almagor was today in 1939 in Mandate Palestine: Israel born. Four months before her birth, her father was a police officer in the British Army, was shot by an Arab sniper. As Gila Almagor was 13 years old she came to the youth village Hadassim, and received a two-year training. At the age of 17, she took acting lessons and moved it to Tel Aviv. After drama school Gila Almagor studied for two years in New York. Subsequently, she appeared in the leading theaters in Israel. In about 40 feature films Gila Almagor held the lead role. She also had her own radio show and is committed to children with cancer.

She appeared in several films by Ephraim Kishon. It has worked several times with the producer and director Menahem Golan together.

In 1989, she received the awards of the Silver Bear for her role in the film Aviyas summer.

In 2004 her the Israel Prize. The Tel Aviv University awarded her an honorary doctorate in 2009.
