Gilbert Desmet

Gilbert Desmet ( born February 3, 1931 in Roeselare ) is a former Belgian cyclist.

Gilbert Desmet was professional racing drivers of 1952 until 1957. During those years, he won 101 victories, including Paris- Tours, Kuurne -Brussels- Kuurne (both 1958), at the Flèche Wallonne and the Championship of Flanders (both 1964). Four times he won the GP Briek Scot is thus record winner in this race, and three times the Omloop van het Houtland, which is also a record, but he shares with André Maelbrancke and Etienne De Wilde.

Six times Desmet launched at the Tour de France. In 1956, he wore the yellow jersey two stages and 1963 ten stages long. In 1962 he finished fourth overall and eight in 1964.

Gilbert Desmet is not related to the same cyclist ( b. 1936 ) from the Belgian Nazareth.
