Gilbert N. Haugen

Gilbert Nelson Haugen (* April 21, 1859 in Orfordville, Rock County, Wisconsin, † July 18, 1933 in Northwood, Iowa ) was an American politician. Between 1899 and 1933 he represented the state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Gilbert Haugen attended the public schools of his home. In 1873 he moved to Decorah in Winneshiek County, Iowa. There he first worked in agriculture. At the same time he was attending a college Breckenridge. Later, he also graduated from the Commercial College in Janesville (Wisconsin ). In the following years, Haugen involved in many stores, primarily in the real estate sector and in the banking sector. In 1886 he moved to Northwood, where he was also active in banking.

Haugen was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1887 and 1893 he served as treasurer in Worth County. In 1890 he founded the Northwood Banking Co. Its president he became.
