Gili Islands

The Gili Islands are a small archipelago in the Balisee off the northwest coast of the Indonesian island of Lombok.

The group consists of three small sandy islands ( Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan ), which are both just a few meters above sea level.

Live on the islands sea turtles, which are now strictly protected after years of hunting. Through tourism and formerly practiced dynamite fishing, which has now been banned on the Gili Islands, great damage was caused to the coral reefs around the islands. Nevertheless, the islands are one of the most popular diving and snorkeling in the area.

On the islands there are no paved roads, yet motorized vehicles; most important means of transportation are horse-drawn carriages. In about two hours can be the largest and main island of Gili Trawangan, on which there are hotels, hike around on foot.
