Gillenbeuren

Gillenbeuren is a municipality in the district Cochem-Zell, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality elms.

Geography

The municipality is located in a valley in the southern Eifel. To Gillenbeuren includes the residential places Berghof and Birkenhof.

History

The first written record comes from the year 1220. The robber baron Johann Lutter Kobern was arrested in 1536 at Gillenbeuren and later executed in Koblenz.

By the end of the 18th century Gillenbeuren belonged to the Electorate of Trier and glorious country was assigned to the high court Alflen in the Official Cochem. In Trier fire book from 1563 22 hearths (households) in Gillenbeuren ( Gelenbeuren ) were recorded, in 1684 there were only ten.
