The Southern three-blade spar ( Gillenia stipulata ) is a species of the genus Gillenia.

Features

The Southern three-blade spar is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches the plant height of 40 to 100 centimeters. The upper and lower stem leaves are different. At the top, the leaflets are cut at the bottom, however, often pinnatifid to pieces. On the underside of the leaves are glandular. The 10 to 30 mm long stipules are persistent, foliaceous, ovate - lanceolate to almost round and sawn on the edge. The are 10 to 13 millimeters long and mostly white.

The flowering time is in July and August.

Occurrence

The Southern three-blade spar occurs in dry to moist, sparse mountain forests, thickets and rocky slopes in the east and southeast of the United States.

Use

The Southern three-blade spar is rarely used as an ornamental plant for wood borders and perennial beds.
