The Northern three-blade spar ( Gillenia trifoliata ) is a species of the genus Gillenia.
Features
The Northern three-blade spar is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches the plant height of 50 to 100 centimeters. The upper and lower stem leaves are similar. On the underside of the leaves are no glands. The 5 to 10 mm long stipules lapsed small areas, subulate, linear to lanceolate, entire, ciliate or occupied by individual teeth. The petals are 12-2 millimeters long and usually pink.
The flowering period extends from June to August.
Occurrence
The Northern three-blade spar is in Canada in Ontario and in the USA in the northeast, east and southeast. The species grows in dry to moist mountain forests.
Use
The Northern three-blade spar is rarely used as an ornamental plant for wood borders and perennial beds.
